Oppède and the cedar forest

changing scenery and sensations

We always choose where we hike after a short look at the weather forecast. This itinerary was a good pick (above all, we needed shade). The climb is steep but rewarding with changing scenery and various physical sensations. Rock slight coolness, water springing, blazing heat and finally a cool breeze… We had Lunch under a cedar tree after a 450m positive altitude change.

Green salad, herbed artichokes in oil and garlic, pink radishes and spring onions, parsley, covering semolina. With salt, pepper and a mix of olive oil and lemon juice

When at the top, you can sneak a peek at the other side of the Luberon. It’s tempting to go down this way to proudly step over a mountain, but we chose to have a beer in Oppède-le-Vieux.

Where is it?

Hike starts in Oppède-le-Vieux. Take time to stroll around in this magnificent village (see Pics HERE)

Parking fee 3 euros (high season)

Loop itinerary : Vallon de Combrès to La Jassine (up in the Cedar forest) then when at Bastidon du Pradon, down to Oppède (GR6-GR97).

450m positive altitude change – excellent physical condition required – IGN map needed – Do not leave the beaten track (for once) and pay real attention on your way to the top.
