5 things to know about La Plage de l’Espiguette (Do not miss .5)
1.Where is it? You’ll get there from Le Grau-du-Roi, 33 km from Montpellier. Follow the « Espiguette » road signs. Parking fee required during the high season.
2.Why should you go? It’s one of the longest (10km) and largest (700 meters) beach of the Mediterranean. There, you’ll find serenity and total escape. It looks like a desert at the water’s edge.
3.What can you do there? It’s the perfect spot to fly a kite, learn kite-surf or talk to « tellines » clams fishermen early in the morning. Explore mindfulness through a meditative walk.
4.It’s a wild and protected area: access to the dunes is forbidden. Wooden poles prevent People from stamping on the sand. They also reduce wind force and sand movements. Sand dunes protect inland areas from coastal water intrusion.
5.Go/hike during the low season in order to avoid (too much) tourists and mosquitoes. If in doubt, bring your mosquito repellent (no tourist reppelent yet).
